Cryopen
TREATMENT EXPLANATION
At Skin Zest, we proudly offer Cryotherapy with CryoPen®, a revolutionary treatment designed to safely and effectively eliminate various benign skin lesions. Whether you’re dealing with sunspots, skin tags, cherry angiomas, warts, or verruca’s, Cryotherapy offers a swift and minimally invasive solution to restore your skin’s flawless beauty.
What Is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy, also known as Cryosurgery, is a highly efficient and very low-risk procedure used to freeze and remove benign skin lesions. This advanced technique employs liquefied nitrous oxide to freeze the affected tissue, forming ice shards that rupture the cell membrane, effectively destroying the lesion. Cryotherapy offers several advantages, including its quick procedure time, minimal scarring, and the absence of anaesthesia, making it a popular choice for those seeking efficient and painless solutions.
Benefits Of Cryotherapy With CryoPen®:
- Swift Treatment: Cryotherapy with CryoPen® offers a rapid and efficient solution, ensuring your lesions are addressed promptly, saving you time and hassle.
- Minimal Scarring: Unlike traditional surgical methods, Cryotherapy leaves minimal scarring, allowing your skin to heal naturally and beautifully.
- Painless Procedure: With no need for anaesthesia, Cryotherapy is a virtually painless experience, ensuring your comfort throughout the process.
What Lesions Can CryoPen® Treat?
CryoPen® is your ally against a range of skin imperfections:
- Sunspots: Those pesky sun-induced spots that often mar your skin’s surface.
- Skin Tags: Soft, often painless growths hanging off the skin by a thin stalk.
- Cherry Angiomas: Small, red or purple growths on the skin’s surface caused by broken blood vessels.
- Warts: Raised, rough growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
- Verrucas: Plantar warts appearing on the soles of feet, causing discomfort and irritation.
What To Expect During & After The Treatment
Our skilled technician meticulously prepares the designated area, ensuring it’s impeccably clean for your Cryotherapy session. Any trace of makeup, lotions, or oils is gently removed, creating the perfect canvas. Then, the state-of-the-art CryoPen® comes to life, applying the precise freezing agent to your lesion. You might briefly feel a cooling sensation, but rest assured, the procedure is swift and remarkably well-tolerated.
Following your treatment, our caring technician will provide you with comprehensive post-treatment instructions. This detailed guide covers everything from optimal aftercare for the treated area to what you can expect in the upcoming days. Plus, you’ll receive valuable insights on temporary activities to avoid, ensuring your skin heals beautifully.
If the treatment area is below the neck, this can take up to 6 weeks. Total skin healing (fading of residual redness) may take up to 3 months.
Follow your therapists’ instructions for treatment.
We recommend making a review appointment for 6-8 weeks after your session to ensure optimum results.
After Care
Following your Cryotherapy session with CryoPen®, it’s essential to observe proper post-care to facilitate optimal healing and results. Here are the guidelines for the post-care period,

- Do not sunbathe or use other heat treatments (sunbeds, sauna, steam)
- Do not take hot showers or baths
- Do not swim
- Do not apply makeup to the treatment area
- Do not apply soap, perfumed products or heavy moisturisers or tanning lotions to the treatment area.
- Do not touch or cleanse the treatment area
- Do not pick at any scabs which may form. It is common to experience redness and swelling after treatment.

- Avoid use of any exfoliators and avoid skin care containing active ingredients (i.e. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, glycolic acid, salicylic acid and other acids) until the area is completely healed.
- Apply aloe vera as required over the treatment area for the next 72 hours. Always apply with clean cotton wool, not fingers. You can also keep your aloe vera in the fridge for an extra cooling effect which may help to soothe the skin.
- Always ensure that you are applying SPF of at least 30 with zinc oxide to the treatment area, regardless of weather conditions.
- Gently cleanse around the area and pat dry with a clean tissue/towel. The treatment area may appear darker after your session.

While Cryotherapy with CryoPen® is generally safe and well-tolerated, it’s essential to be aware of potential side effects, although they are usually mild and temporary. These may include:
- Redness: The treated area might appear slightly red immediately after the procedure, which topically subsides within a few hours.
- Swelling: Some swelling is common, especially for larger lesions. This should diminish within 1-3 days.
- Blistering: In some cases a blister might form. It’s crucial not to pop; it will naturally heal and disappear.
- Pain or discomfort: Mild discomfort or a stinging sensation is normal and severe pain is very rare.
-Infection: While rare, any wound carries a minimal risk of infection. Proper aftercare greatly reduces the risk. - Pigmentation changes (both hypo-pigmentation & hyper-pigmentation. More risk from skin type 4-6 – patch test advised). Pigmentation changes can last a few months, but it can be longer lasting
- Nerve damage is rare but is possible, particularly in the area where they lie closer to the surface of the skin, such as fingers, the wrist and area behind the ear. Reports suggest that this will disappear within several months.
- Shards of frozen humidity. The high pressure jet may cause minor shards of frozen humidity in the air blown away on a circle of approximately 30cm. They will thaw the moment they would eventually touch healthy skin.
- Lesions on sites with coarse terminal hair. Although it is not proven that cryotherapy will damage hair follicles it is recommended that care is taken in dense areas of hair.
It’s important to remember that these side effects are usually short-lived and manageable. If you have specific concerns or experience unusual symptoms, we are here to help!
